I would like to raise my concerns to the placement of the basketball hoop on East Looe seafront through The Cornish Times. I was born in Looe and moved away a few years ago when I married. However, I visit my family in Looe several times a year and always enjoy joining them all on the beach. I am totally bemused by the idea of placing this basketball hoop in the location that they have. Obviously, we understand the youngsters need things of interest to them, within the town. But the fact is, it is not so much the youngsters using this newly-erected basketball hoop, but men in their late 20s, early 30s! On three of the four days I sat on the slabs this week, I only observed two children trying to play basketball there, but the older men simply kept brushing the children's basketballs away each time they tried to shoot into the hoop. Extremely intimidating, no doubt, for these youngsters the basketball hoop was intended for. At one point there were five different balls all aiming for the same hoop one afternoon. The noise this is making is horrific – you simply can no longer enjoy a relaxing time on the beach as the noise is echoing all around. Why don't we think for a minute just how much money has been piled into the 'face lift' of the seafront... why on earth have they placed this basketball hoop here? Surely this is going to wreck the whole area – signs of this happening are becoming apparent already. The lamp posts which were delightfully lighting up the seafront have now been broken by these basketballs. An old man with a walking stick was clinging to the railings for dear life trying to pass them – did they stop to allow him a safe passage? No. The sheer amount of litter in the corner around the hoop is shocking. This is an utter disgrace to the area.
