LISKEARD Silver Band will be holding its annual autumn concert on Saturday, October 8, in the Public Hall. Under their new musical director, Malcolm Blamire, members will be offering a varied and entertaining programme of popular music from far and wide. Items will include the American Patrol March and, something from nearer home, a selection of local Cornish tunes in an arrangement by Jack Wills called 'Eer Tiz'. There will also be solos by two of the band's younger members and a chance for some audience participation as a finale to the evening. The band will be joined for the evening by Pelynt Male Voice Choir under the musical directorship of John Trethewey. Originally formed in 1966, the choir perform about 25 concerts a year raising considerable amounts of money for local charities. The choir has also been further afield including singing in the Chapter House of Canterbury Cathedral and in the town of Rosporden in Brittany. The concert starts at 7.30 pm and tickets are available on the door.
