THE Cornwall Schools' "Closed" Badminton Championships 2001, held at Truro School Sports hall on September 22/23, attracted an excellent entry of over 80 competitors.
Pat Hollands, the organiser/co-ordinator, reported games keenly contested, allied to a marvellous spirit in the hall, throughout the whole weekend.
The event would no have been possible without, once again, the headmaster, Mr P K Smith's kind permission to use the facilities, together with volunteers - mainly parents, under the direction of David Hunt and Pat Hollands who gave their help so willingly.
Direct Sports Supplies (DSS) Ltd, of Ramsgate, Kent were the sponsors.
Teresa Hobbs, aged 13, the Cornwall Schools' player, from Budehaven Community School, Bude, registered a glorious hat-trick of titles - girls' under 15 singles and doubles, together with the under 15 mixed doubles. Teresa partnered her sister, fifteen year old Rachael and Guy Michell, respectively, in the two doubles events.
Several other youngsters secured a brace of wins, including Alice Jefferson and Dan Mock, both Truro School and Lucy Manico of Truro High School.
