Andrew Lord took an 800 mile round trip to run in the Coniston 14-mile road race with his brother Tim.
There were 1400 entrants to this extremely scenic race around Coniston Lake, which meant the start was a little crowded and runners found themselves walking for the first few minutes.
Fortunately the weather was favourable, being sunny and warm, and the race was well organised with good support from onlookers most of the way round.
The race was won by Donald Maylor in a time of 1:12:15. The first lady home was Megan Clark in 1:28:06, both runners were from Hunter Bog Trotters. Andrew Lord, ECH, finished in a time of 1:35:41 beating his brother Tim, who had led for the first eight miles, but finally finished in 1:39:08.
Closer to home was the Teignmouth 10, which had 270 entrants this year. Six East Cornwall Harriers took part, Mile Erith led them home with a time of 66:65. Revis Crowle finished in 68.40, also picking up the third Vet 35 trophy. Ron Paine produced another PB to finish in a time of 69.57. Amanda Erith picked up the third Vet 45 trophy with a time of 77.13, next ECH back was Mike Palmer in 80.03 and Doreen Paine finished in 87.05.
Other local runners - NqRR. (18) Paul Bullock 61:28 ran a PB and picked up second Vet 40, (23) Pete Sargent 65.59 won the 2nd Vet 50, Mike Kestle 64.12 and Lesley Richardson 71:47 won the third Vet 40 trophy.
