The East Cornwall Society of Artists is celebrating its first 60 years during 2006, beginning with an Easter exhibition at the Ebenezer Gallery in Polperro, which opens tomorrow. The society has a membership of some 120 local artists, ranging from professionals to amateurs and from figurative styles to abstract. Oldest member Herbert Whitby, who lives at St Germans, is 99 and is still exhibiting. The society's gallery, which opened in the 1970s, was formerly a chapel and visitors to the exhibition can expect to see a wonderful range of original coastal scenes, sea and landscapes, flower paintings and abstracts by well-known members such as Ruby Herndon, Shirley Harrell, Les Spence, Roy Stringfellow, Vashti and Jenny Marchant, among many other talented artists. The exhibition runs until Sunday, April 23.
