A SUMMER exhibition by the Ashtorre Artists group will open its doors on Saturday (August 26) on the Waterside.
The group, formed in 2009 by John Forster and Richard Allman to create 150 images of the Brunel rail bridge, has spent successive years creating both literal and abstract interpretations of waterside subject matter.
This year the theme is ‘Tidelines’, described in the Oxford English Dictionary as ‘a line left or reached by the sea on a shore at the highest point of a tide’. The subject has been explored by the group’s 12 artists through the media of drawing, painting, collage and printmaking.
Young artists from Bishop Cornish and Burraton Primary Schools will be exhibiting their own work on a theme of ‘Flotsam and Jetsam’ alongside the Ashtorre group.
Visitors to the exhibition will also be able to have a go at making art for themselves by participating with others in recreating a painting from a well-known artist.
‘Tidelines’ will be open daily from August 26 - September 10 (10am - 4pm) at the Ashtorre Rock centre.
