PLYMOUTH Argyle are unsure whether Sunday's opening home South West Combination League fixture against AFC Team Bath at Bolitho Park will go ahead.

It would appear the University-based team are struggling to raise a side.

Argyle know they must get off to a good start to the season and will be disappointed if Team Bath get the match postponed.

Manager Kev Rose said: 'We are all ready to go, but because some of the University students haven't returned yet, they want the game postponed.'

Argyle have finished runners-up in their last two campaigns and, once again, promotion to the Premier League is their one and only aim.

Under new management duo Kev Rose and Clive Roberts, Argyle's pre-season campaign saw them narrowly lose out to Premier League National Division side Bristol Academy 3-1, before winning 2-1 at Premier League South side Truro City.

Argyle then sent a combined first and second team to Devon League newcomers Axminster Town for a comfortable 21-1 victory.

Director of football Ryan Thomas and Rose have been working hard behind the scenes signing new players.

Argyle missed out on the signatures of former Newquay striker Helen Wood and Bournemouth goalkeeper Rachel Simkin, who both joined Bristol Academy.

Rose has snapped up Plymouth-based defender Chelsea Easton from Newquay, with Penzance striker Rose Knuckey also expected to sign.

Defender Emily Field has also decided to commit herself to the club, along with an as yet unnamed goalkeeper who has recently moved into the area.

Relegated Team Bath found life difficult in the Premier League Southern Division last season and will be eager to return to the Premier ranks.

Argyle will once again rely on the goalscoring talents of Chloe Roberts, who hit more than 50 goals in all competitions last season, backed up by the clever left-wing play of Laura Perrett.

Captain Katie Middleton has been used in a more central role in the midfield this season, alongside industrious teenager Becky Atkins.

Rose may blood a couple of youngsters this season, but he must first ensure the team gets off to a winning start, although he will most probably rely on the team that narrowly missed promotion last season as he looks for a winning start.

Argyle's reserves have found difficulty in arranging pre-season friendlies but were due to visit Devon League side Dawlish Town this week.
