Part of a new development in Looe could be named after a popular former mayor of the town as a permanent mark of respect. The late Ron Overd worked tirelessly for the town during his time on the town council and as a leading figure in many other community organisations. Mr Overd, who served the town as mayor in 2001 and for six consecutive years from 2003 to 2009, died at home on Thursday, April 1, 2010, after being diagnosed with cancer of the lung and liver in February, 2008.
Looe Town Council is fully supporting the idea of a street on the proposed new business park in East Looe being named in his memory. A full planning application has been submitted to Cornwall Council to build 100 residential properties on land at St Martins Road and details of the development were expected to go before planners yesterday. An outline application has also been submitted for phase two of the development, which will include further residential properties and employment development.
See this week's Cornish Times for full details.
