An architect who has devoted many years to the conservation and celebration of Liskeard’s historic buildings has been made an Honoured Burgess of the town. George Vaughan Ellis is a ‘kind, public-spirited member of the community who has done outstanding work to protect the heritage of Liskeard’, said town mayor Jane Pascoe, who presented George with a medal and certificate denoting his status as burgess. George, 89, purchased an architectural practice in Liskeard in 1950, and from then on, his work involved him in projects both in the town and in other parts of Cornwall. He was made a Bard of the Cornish Gorsedh in 2007 for services to architecture and heritage, taking the bardic name of Penser (architect).
