Looe's Cornerstone Shop, run by Churches Together in Looe and District, is inviting anyone who expects to be on their own this Christmas Day to come along to Christmas lunch. 'This will be the fifth year we have organised a Christmas Day Lunch for anyone in the community who is on their own and would like to share this special day with us and with others,' said Ann Barnicoat, chair of Cornerstone. 'Transport and lunch is free so please drop into the Cornerstone Shop to find out more details and reserve your place - if anyone would like help with food, money, transport and help on the day, the notices will be around the town so keep a look out for them. Mrs Barnicoat explained that Cornerstone has been in existence for over six years now, changing and developing throughout that time, but remaining a place where everyone can drop in for a chat, a coffee or to browse. 'Since we began we have given £25,000 away in donations to various charities concerned with children. The local ones include the Children's Hospice South West, Riding for the Disabled, Ellie's Fund, the local Pre-School, CLIC, Holidays for the Disabled, the Blind Children, Derriford Hospital Wards and equipment, as well as national charities such as the Air Ambulance, Shelter Box Appeal, the Tsunami Appeal and MacMillan Nursing. 'The Trustees would very much like to thanks all our volunteers who work in the shop, all our customers who come in to browse and buy our goods and cards, and all the people who donate their goods to the shop to be sold - we owe you a great debt of gratitude and we do appreciate the support and good wishes and we hope to continue for a long time to come.' Cornerstone is always eager for new volunteers to work three-hour shifts, morning or afternoon on any day of the week - anyone interested should call in to the shop for more details.
