Sailing- Excellent night's racing

The first race of the Torpoint Mosquito Thursday Series two was an excellent night medium winds did not die away in the evening.

The non finishing of the first two Lasers for not registering their intention to race was disappointing but we need to have a simple means to keep track of who is in what boat, that is followed by all the participants.

Results - Mirror dinghy - James Ogilvie; Tom Sneyd; Anita Finch.

Handicap Class - Joe Snawden (Hornet), Richard Woods (Stealth), G Ward (Enterprise).

Laser Radial - Paul Cox, Elliott Watts, Adrian Sullivan.

Laser Dinghy - Ben Watts, James Sneyd, David Moore.

The Harbour Lights and Wheelers Series race two on Monday started overcast and ended in light rain with a variable southwest wind. This was a good sized fleet for the poor weather fleet of nine Lasers, seven Radials, seven Mirrors and five Toppers starting.

Results - Mirror dinghy - 1, James Ogilvie; 2, Anita Finch; 3, Tom Sneyd.

Topper Class - W Ward, D Milner, A Cook.

Race four of the second Thursday night series at SALTASH Sailing club was greeted with a bright and sunny day with winds force two, starting off from the south-west but later moving round to the north east. The course for IRC and PYA was C, Y (Camels Head and South Skinham) and for PYB it was C, B (Brunel Green).

The start of the race was with the falling tide but no boats were over the line. First off the line in each class were - ICR - Firestorm Too; PYA - Mr Shifter; PYB - Fille Breton.

The wind shift to a north-easterly halfway through the race made progress up river slower than it did had been earlier in the race but never-the-less all but one of the boats competing managed to complete the race.

Results - Thursday second series IRCA - Hydrodjinn (Frank Ellwood); Shara of York (Peter Noakes); Firestorm Too (Paul Radgick).

PYA - Jabberwocky (Brian Cann); Chancer (Martin Watts); Kaliko (John Veale).

PYB - Spellbound (John Hearl); Enigma (Gordon Phypers); Fille Breton (John Smellie)

Last Saturday brought the resailing of the previously postponed June cup race to Looe Bay. Closest race in light winds was in the Laser fleet with no more than 30 seconds between winner Gareth Shaw and second placed David Jackman over each of the three rounds.

A welcome addition to the Mirror Fleet was club stewardess Charlotte Jaycock, taking a rare excusion onto the water to crew for Simon Cole and also keep an eye on younger brother Jamie's progress.

Results - Mirror 1st. John Crabb and Jamie Jaycock; 2, Philip Godbolt and Christian Walker; 3, Simon Cole and Charlotte Jaycock.

Redwing - Bud Coote and Dave Darlington; Roger Hocking and Hedley Martin; Derek Hocking and Mark Delf.
