Devon and Cornwall Police took part in a pan-European operation led by the National Crime Agency (NCA) to target modern slavery, in particular the aspect of sexual exploitation.

Operation Perceptional took place in October. In Cornwall, staff visited 11 premises, raising awareness about the signs of sexual exploitation in hotels, a building site, a number of food factories and premises believed to be used as a brothel in Newquay.

Police in Cornwall have started a programme to train hoteliers in spotting the signs of modern slavery and in how to report it.
