SOUTH East Cornwall is taking a battering from Storm Imogen, with ferocious gales and heavy rain making conditions hazardous.
Roads have been blocked and there have been power cuts on the edges of the area.
A fallen tree blocked the A38 near Bodmin Parkway for a spell earlier this morning. The busy route was also blocked by an accident involving a lorry and a van at Doublebois. There were no injuries. The road is now clear.
Homes in the Truro, Troon and St Austell areas have been without power due to fallen lines, with Western Power saying engineers hope to restore services to homes in the PL26 area by noon.
The Met Office recorded gusts of 79mph during the night at Culdrose.
Delays are hitting the rail network, with all trains operating to a speed limit because of the risk of fallen trees.
Sea conditions were described as ‘dangerous’ and ‘phenomenal’.
The Cremyll Ferry is not running because of the conditions.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Several Fire Crews have been out in the early hours of this morning attending incidents involving electricity cables. These incidents are in varying locations around the county and are as a result of the strong winds currently buffeting Cornwall.
‘Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service advise that care is taken when travelling today with the current weather conditions. Drivers need to be aware of debris on the road and the possibility of fallen trees.’
The Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry were operating normally during rush hour, but traffic was reported to be slow across the bridge because of the high winds. Managers had warned yesterday there may be disruption.
Drivers have been warned to take care and allow extra time for journeys.
High winds are forecast through the day until around 6pm.
