Partners from a wide range of organisations including the police, NHS, city council and licensing trade are joining forces over this Bank Holiday weekend to help keep those enjoying Plymouth city in the evening safe.

In an operation named ‘Plymouth After Dark’, Saturday night will see a ‘Safe Bus’ being trialled in the busy areas around the pubs and clubs. Medical staff, police and other support groups will be on the single decker bus ready to provide treatment and support as well as a safe haven for those who are vulnerable through drink, drugs or crime.

The police have also funded a trial to extend the Barbican’s taxi marshal scheme on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Also supporting the initiative are paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) who will be on hand on Bank Holiday Sunday to offer medical assistance in Plymouth’s Street Safe zone from their mobile treatment centres located at the Basket Ope on The Barbican and the Civic Centre where a portable shelter unit has three clinical areas for patient assessment and treatment.
