DEVON and Cornwall Police says it has had an overwhelming response to an appeal to retired and former police officers and staff to come back to the force.
The call was made as the emergency services step up to tackle the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic and the enforcement of new rules on movement and social distancing.
'Following our request for support from officers and staff who previously served with Devon & Cornwall Police, we have received an overwhelming response,’ said a force spokesperson.
’We just wanted to say thank you to everybody, and ask that you bear with us whilst we endeavour to reply as soon as possible.’
The country’s 10,000 strong force of volunteer Special Constables is also being called upon to do extra hours on shift: employers have been asked by the National Police Chiefs Council to consider releasing their employees who also serve as Specials.
