A car which burst into flames after leaving the road sparked a police search using thermal imaging cameras and the force helicopter yesterday evening.

999 services were alerted by a call reporting a car on fire in a field following a collision in the North Petherwin area outside Launceston.

Firefighters found a single vehicle well alight and used two high pressure hosereel jets to put out the flames.

There was nobody in the vehicle or the immediate vicinity.7

Firefighters and police officers searched the area using a thermal imaging camera, and the Police helicopter also used its thermal imaging camera to search a wider area, but nobody was found.
