BOTH of Looe’s lifeboats have been involved in multiple dramas this week.
Crews have gone to the aid of six people in three separate shouts.
All were triggered by calls from the public who had seen people in distress and called the Coastguard.
On Tuesday (August 16) at 5.50pm both lifeboats sped to two girls in distress at Talland Bay.
Crews found the girls clinging to the cliff after being cut off by the tide.
The Atlantic lifeboat stood off and the smaller D Class manoeuvred in. Two lifeboat crew entered the water and carried the scantily-clad teenage girls, both holding on to their handbags, to the lifeboat.
The girls were taken to Talland beach and waited in the café with the crew until the Coastguard arrived.
The previous day, at 3.40pm on Monday (August 15), crews had a report of two people cut off by the tide at Plaidy, East Looe. The D Class Lifeboat Ollie Naismith quickly found two people who were unhurt and sunbathing.
The second shout followed a report of two capsized kayaks in Cawsand Bay. When the lifeboat arrived both kayaks had been righted by their crews and were unhurt.
Lifeboat launch authority and Looe Harbourmaster Jeff Penhaligon said: ‘These calls to the coastguard were made with good intentions and although in these cases there were no casualties, we always appreciate the public keeping an eye out for people on the water.’
