WITH a much better weather forecast for the weekend, hopes are high for a full programme of sporting action in south east and east Cornwall, after a near wash-out last weekend.

The highlight of the local football action is the RGB Cornwall Senior Cup quarter-finals, with South West Peninsula League side Dobwalls entertaining Toolstation Western League outfit Millbrook tomorrow (Saturday) in what should be a cracking tie at Lantoom Park.

Both sides are going well in their respective divisions, but have suffered from a lack of games in recent weeks.

Equally mouth-watering is the Kimberley Stadium last-eight clash between old rivals Saltash United and Helston Athletic, who were both promoted to the Western League from the Peninsula League at the end of last season.

Both matches kick off at 3pm.

In the Peninsula League, Liskeard Athletic return to action in Premier West with a tough-looking trip to St Blazey, while Bodmin Town play host to Penryn Athletic at Priory Park.

In Premier East, title-chasing Torpoint Athletic are at home to strugglers Stoke Gabriel and Torbay Police.

In the St Piran League, Polperro entertain Callington Town Reserves, St Dominick are at home to Millbrook Reserves, and Saltash Borough face a derby clash with Saltash United Reserves at Salt Mill.

In the East Cornwall Premier League, Gunnislake host St Cleer, Looe Town are at home to St Minver, and Altarnun visit St Stephen.

In the local rugby, Liskeard-Looe play Bude at Lux Park in the Cornwall/Devon League (2.30pm), still seeking their first win of the season, while Saltash play host to Withycombe (2.30pm).

Liskeard-Looe: J Smith, T Wilson, A Rowe, A Gregg, J Badnall, J Noel-Johnson (capt), C Beaver, M Mander, M Porter, L Chapman, S Winfield, M Prowse, L Egginton, W Stuart, A Doidge. Replacements: K Manning, C Smith, J Brown.

Saltash: Ryan Cruickshanks, Joe Rider, Andrew Walsh, Kieran Down, Jay Moriarty, Kristian Davis, Jack Pritchard, Simon Nance, Ryan Simmons, Chris Carpenter, Lewis Woolaway, Liall Honey, Fin Jones, Phil Eatwell (capt), Steve Hillman. Replacements: Colm Rich, Michael Capstack, Danny Snook.

Cornwall One champions Bodmin are in Kernow League action at home to Illogan Park.

On Sunday, in ladies’ football, Plymouth Argyle Ladies are at the Manadon Hub for the Dockyard derby against Portsmouth in the National League Southern Premier Division.

In the South West League Western Division, Saltash are at home to Feniton while Argyle U23s travel to Liskeard Athletic.

In the Earthbound Electrical Cornwall League, Saltash Development receive Penryn, Saltash Borough are at Division Two leaders Foxhole in the quarter-finals of the League Cup, while Callington Town travel to Bude Town.
