Cornwall Air Ambulance will be demonstrating lifesaving skills at its next open day on September 8.

The charity will give the public the opportunity to find out what a defibrillator is and how to use it effectively. Visitors will also be able to test out their CPR technique.

Thomas Hennessy Jones, Critical Care Paramedic, said: ’The chain of survival starts with early intervention. For every minute it takes to get a defibrillator to someone in cardiac arrest, their chances of survival reduce by up to 10 per cent. Minutes really do matter when it comes to saving lives. If you’ve never used a defibrillator or performed CPR before then it can be a very daunting prospect, so we want to raise awareness of what people can do in an emergency and give them the confidence to act while they wait for further medical help.’

The event, which will be held in the charity’s airbase at Trevithick Downs near Newquay, will also give visitors a behind-the-scenes view of the helicopter and specialist equipment used by the crew every day.

Cornwall Air Ambulance open day takes place on Sunday, September 8 from 11am-3pm. Entry free, donations welcome.
