POLICE have made five further arrests following a violent disturbance outside a takeaway in Truro city centre.

Five men were arrested in Cliff Road, Newquay yesterday (Tuesday, October 6) in connection to the incident that took place at Calenick Street on August 24.

The men, three of whom are in their 20s and two in their 30s, have been released on bail while police continue their enquiries.

The violent incident, which involved a large knife, forced armed police to intervene and shut Calenick Street. Subsequently, The Central Grill kebab shop was closed for three months.

Before the latest arrests, two men were charged with two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and are due to face trial in December.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Yesterday [October 6] arrested five men in Cliff Road, Newquay, in connection to an alleged incident in Calenick Street, Truro, on Monday, August 24.

“Three men in their 20s and two in their 30s were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

“They have all been released on police bail while enquiries continue.”
