VANDALS have struck at a school and nursery in a Clay Country village targeting areas enjoyed by the pupils in their break times.

Bugle School and Nursery has expressed “great disappointment” over the break-in.

The intruders wreaked havoc knocking over furniture and throwing equipment about.

A spokesperson said: “A cupboard, tables and lots of resources were damaged. It will cost approximately £750 to repair and replace what has been damaged.

“We have received numerous offers of support to help tidy, repair and replace the damaged items from the local community, including our parish council, parents and friends of the school.

“The break-in, which took place during the evening of Tuesday, September 15, has been reported and anyone with any information should contact Devon and Cornwall Police, quoting the crime number 50260247267.”

In a post on social media, the school said: “It is with great disappointment that we share news of a recent break-in at our school.

“During the incident, areas of the school were damaged and resources that had been purchased specifically to support our pupils’ play, wellbeing and enjoyment during break times were destroyed.

“As a school, we work hard to create positive experiences and opportunities for our children. Seeing equipment intended to bring joy to our pupils damaged in this way is incredibly upsetting for both staff and children.

“However, one thing that cannot be broken is the strength of our school community. We will rebuild, replace what we can and continue to provide the very best for our children.

“Thank you to everyone who has already offered support and kind messages.”

Cornwall councillor Steve Trevelyan (Reform UK), who represents the Roche and Bugle division, posted on social media about the break-in, saying: “I hope the scum that did this are caught and severely punished… We cannot go on making excuses for this behaviour in our village.”
