Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety (CFRCS) Service says it is pleased with the results of an operational assessment by fellow emergency services staff.

The Operational Assessment is a framework developed by the Local Government Association and the Chief Fire Officers Association. The process has a strong operational focus and involves producing a self assessment, with associated evidence and an external peer challenge.

The report was well received and identified areas for the service to maintain and build upon, including: ‘The service is well-respected by partners and residents. It is embedded in the council, and is making a positive difference to people’s lives.’

The report also reminded the service to ensure it maintains its core focus: ‘In expanding the role of firefighters and the contribution the service makes to the council’s priorities, it is important that the focus on the core requirement of each role is not lost.’

Chief Fire Officer Paul Walker said: ‘This report confirms through external review that Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service provides a highly respected and valued service to residents, businesses and visitors across Cornwall.

‘I am immensely proud and grateful of our professional and dedicated staff who deliver this service, making a positive difference to people’s lives on a daily basis for 365 days a year.’
