TWO people had to be rescued by firefighters from a car which overturned at St Cleer yesterday (Monday) evening.

The drama unfolded when at 7.31pm Fire Control were contacted by Police Control reporting a road traffic collision involving a vehicle which had rolled over and two people were trapped inside. The accident had occurred at around 7.15pm on a road reported as being near the water treatment plant.

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service mobilised appliances from Liskeard and Callington, the Rescue Tender from Bodmin and a Wholetime Station Manager. The first appliance arrived at the scene within nine minutes of the emergency call.

On arrival, the fire crews confirmed that two people were medically trapped in the vehicle. With Devon & Cornwall Police also in attendance, the crews then needed to use crash rescue equipment to remove the car’s roof before awaiting the arrival of further ambulance service resources before they could extricate both casualties.

At 8.45pm a fire service update reported that both casualties had been removed from the car by fire service personnel and had been handed over to ambulance crews for further treatment and transport to hospital. The road was closed for a short time while the rescue work was under way.
