A DOG trapped on a ledge on a cliff in Fowey was rescued by volunteer coastguard teams.
The St Austell Coastguard along with colleagues from Polruan and Fowey Lifeboat were called to the incident yesterday.
’The teams deployed technical rope rescue equipment to recover the dog down the cliff to the waiting lifeboat on the beach below,’ said a spokesperson for St Austell Coastguard.
’Some great teamwork work from both Coastguard and the Lifeboat crew.’
The spokesperson went on to say that the owners of the dog, who are local, made the right call in dialing 999.
’The Coastgaurd has the specialist rope rescue equipment and are trained for this type of cliff rescue. The owners did the right thing and did not try and rescue the dog themselves.
’Please remember to keep dogs on leads when walking near cliff edges.’
