Almost 60 vehicles were seized during a police clampdown on uninsured drivers in Devon and Cornwall.

The week-long campaign saw 54 vehicles taken because their driver had no valid insurance, and three were seized as the driver had no valid licence.

As a minimum, each driver will receive three points on their licence and a £300 fine, plus a £150 charge to have their vehicle returned.

Numerous other drivers were stopped for other insurance offences but allowed to reinsure at the roadside, said a Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson.
