Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service (CFRCSS) is keen to hear from people who are interested in becoming on-call firefighters in Lostwithiel.

CFRCSS has more than 400 on-call firefighters who are on stand-by and ready to respond to fire, road traffic collisions, flooding or any other emergency situations.

CFRCSS Station Manager Dave Pilling said: ’Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service are looking for ordinary people who live or work in the community and who come from every walk of life to become firefighters.

’We can provide the station, appliances, equipment and training but we need the firefighters themselves to come forward from the local community.’

To become an on-call firefighter you must be at least 17 years and 6 months old (as you must turn 18 years old before starting employment as a firefighter), live and/or work close to Lostwithiel Community Fire Station.

Applicants are also asked to go through a selection process to assess whether they have the potential to do the job. This will involve written and physical tests as well as an interview.

If you are interested, you can visit www.cornwall.gov.uk/firerecruitment, call 01872 323500 or drop in to Lostwithiel Community Fire Station on their drill night every Tuesday evening from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
