Fowey’s lifeboat crew rescued a broken-down fishing boat between Fowey and Pencarrow Head last week.

The 18ft leisure boat had broken down with two people on board last Thursday, January 11.

Seven volunteer crew members took the Maurice and Joyce Hardy on her first shout of the year and the calm and clear weather made the search and subsequent tow back to Fowey fairly straightforward, giving Grahame Middlewood his first active taste of being a full crew member.

The boat was towed back to Fowey and then transferred to a Harbour Commissioner boat to take it to Caffa Mill.

The crew were offered advice on how to avoid their situation happening again, including how to look at the RNLI website which is full of safety tips, such as:

How to choose and use a VHF radio.

How to choose and use a lifejacket.

How to check and maintain your outboard engine.
