Over 80 pupils ranging from 4-16 years old competed against each other recently in an 'in-house' dance competition run by Sheila Brock of Sheila's School of Dancing. The afternoon at Millendreath Holiday Village, near Looe, was packed with over 200 parents and friends.
The most difficult job of the afternoon went to the judges, dance teacher and owner of the Premier dance studio in Plymouth Mrs Inez Hamlyn, Miss Gemma Higgins, a talented dance and drama student and Mr Paul Higgins, manager of Looe Bay holiday centre. The event went very smoothly thanks to the adjudicators Mrs Edwina Arkwell from The Artworks and Miss Claire De Neveux of West Looe. Stacey Catnach assisted them and the DJ was Guilletta Uccella. Commentator for the afternoon was Sheila Brock.
Eventually all events had three finalists and whilst the final places were decided, Sheila's top teenage team put on a display of dancing. Mr Gerald Oliver, who is chairman of West Looe Town Trust, kindly presented the trophies and certificates to the finalists. The afternoon went to 10-year-old Gemma Higgins from Lanreath who won first place in all three of the competitions she entered. Also taking home various trophies was 7-year-old Brett Lourens who had two first places. The teenage section was dominated by Aimee Lourens and Bernadette Keating who were awarded two first places.

Teenager's Cha Cha Cha - 1st Aimee Lorens and Bernadette Keating, 2nd Amber Moore and Kiri Sargent, 3rd Ruth Stokes and Robyn Brewer. Under 8's Freestyle Solo Disco - 1st Bethany Staff, 2nd Adrian McCarthy, 3rd Jessica Dodge. Children's Freestyle Solo Disco - 1st Gemma Higgins, 2nd Danielle Thorn, 3rd Mairead Snell. Teenager's Freestyle Disco - 1st Susan Jones, 2nd Tamsyn Kinver, 3rd Lucy Caffrey. Children's Freestyle Doubles Disco - 1st Danielle Thorn and Gemma Higgins, 2nd Mairead Snell and Kerry Pengelly, 3rd Anthea Caers and Clare Stokes. Teenagers Freestyle Doubles Disco - 1st Bernadette Keating and Aimee Lourens, 2nd Jayde Sargent and Tamsyn Kinver, 3rd Kiri Sargent and Amber Moore. Under 8's set disco - 1st Brett Laurens, 2nd Claire Carmody, 3rd Yvette Soady. Children's set disco -1st Charloote Hedges, 2nd Jodie Bond, 3rd Kerenza Kinver., 4th Jennifer Santillo. Teenagers set disco - 1st Rhiannon Philp, 2nd Stephanie Buckley, 3rd Rachel Spencer.
