PLANS for a proposed development, which could include up to 1,000 houses on the Broadmoor Farm site near Saltash went on show at an exhibition in the town which attracted 400 visitors.

Among those attending were people from the surrounding villages of Hatt, Botus Fleming, Cargreen, Landulph, Landrake, Tideford and Carkeel.

Cornwall Council has identified Saltash as having the potential for housing development and it is anticipated the local plan will pinpoint Broadmoor Farm as a prime location.

Michelle Sammons, speaking on behalf of the developers Commercial Estates Group, said the company had sent out 9,500 leaflets and there had been a good response from the community.

The development could also include a school, doctors' surgery, retail and small industrial units and offices.

The aim of the development, to be known as The Garden Village, split into east and west, is to create a mix of high-quality housing as well as diverse employment opportunities.

New pedestrian and cycle routes would form an integral part of the development.

Matthew Tunley, development manager of Commercial Estates Group, said: 'We would create neighbourhoods that provide opportunities and benefits to existing communities, and stimulate investment into Saltash via new residents, businesses and visitors.

'We want to understand what's important to local people and ask for their contribution in helping us prepare a development proposal.'

Those at the exhibition were concerned with access roads, including the A38 Callington Road approach to Hatt and Stoketon Cross on the road to Landrake.

County Highways will study the plans and the developers hope to apply for outline planning permission in December. ¯
