Liskeard Tigers 17 RP Matters 15

It was another tight affair for Tigers’ second match of the season.

Playing newly-promoted RP Matters, Tigers again made things difficult for themselves by going three goals down at the start of the match. A better second period, however, produced some great defending by Kay Barker and Vicky Hastings, Erin Beale and Gemma Cliffe worked hard to feed the shooting duo of Vicky Stone and Della Maloney who netted five from eight attempts to gave Tigers a lead 5-3.

RP had a great quarter and Tigers were only able to add one goal to their tally. RP, on the other hand, passed with confidence and good shooting from their GS pulled back four goals to lead 6-7 at the end of the quarter.

At the start of the third quarter Debbie Drinkell came off the bench to replace Thomas at WD who went to WA and Kay Barker donned the unfamiliar GA bib, while Maloney went to GK.

Despite giving away the first centre pass, Liskeard were back in business and worked the ball well. Hastings and Drinkell made themselves a nuisance to the RP attack, picking off lose balls and intercepting. Stone found her form, netting some amazing long shots, Barker fought for the rebounds and worked well in her new position and the quarter ended 13-12 to Liskeard.

RP didn’t give up the hunt for their first win in division 1. Strong passes from Erin Beale at centre and Sophie Thomas at WA ensured Stone and Barker had the best shooting positions and Maloney did not disappoint at GK.

Tigers’ player of the match was Vicky Hastings for a fine defensive performance.
