Liskeard Tigers 21

Team Arthur 19

Tigers were quick to start against 2014/15 Division 2 winners Team Arthur, racing to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter.

Some great passing and feeds by WA Jo Nickle and Centre Erin Beale ensured maximum attempts with the Liskeard attackers working the circle well and Victoria Stone again sinking all her long shots.

However, with three minutes to go Team Arthur woke up and put together a good period of play to stay in touch at 8- 4 at the close of the first half.

Debbie Drinkell replaced Sophie Thomas at WD at the start of the second and Kay Barker and Della Maloney swapped positions and shooting ends. For most of the second quarter Tigers’ play was fluid but again Team Arthur left it to towards the end of the period to exert their pressure tying the quarter at four goals all but Liskeard were still four goals up at the end at 12 - 8.

Thomas went to Centre for the third quarter but Liskeard were finding it more and more difficult to string passes together.

Silly mistakes disrupted the Liskeard rhythm and the Plymouth team upped the pressure on every pass.

Tigers were lucky to be still in the lead going into the fourth quarter and it was set nicely for an exciting final quarter. The score for the quarter was 18-16

Thomas went back to WD and Beale returned at Centre and for most of the last quarter Tigers were the stronger side, dominating possession.

Unfortunately, a lot of chances went begging and Tigers should have been able to extend their lead.

Team Arthur’s dogged determination and accuracy under the post nearly paid off as they put everything into the last five minutes and were able to pull back the Liskeard advantage.

Tigers just held on for a slim victory with the final score being Liskeard Tigers 21-Team Arthur 19.

Liskeard’s player of the match was Victoria Stone for her amazing long shots.
