THE Memorial service for Phil Broad, the former sports editor of The Cornish Times, will be held in Liskeard next Friday (April 10).

Phil, who had been ill for some time, died at his Woking home in February and representatives from Liskeard Football Club and Liskeard Constitutional Club were among those who attended his funeral at Woking Crematorium.

However, because so many people were unable to travel to Surrey for the service, his friends, in conjunction with his family and the management of The Cornish Times, have decided to arrange a local farewell.

It will be at the Parish Church of St Martin in Liskeard at 2pm and will be attended by Phil's widow, Sue, who worked for many years at Liskeard School, and his married daughters, Michaela and Lisa.

Donations in memory of Phil, who worked for The Cornish Times for more than 50 years, are in aid of the Woking Hospice, which cared for him and provided great support for his family.

These can be made via a retiring collection at next Friday's service; direct to the funeral directors, Lodge Brothers, of 48-54 Goldsworth Road, Woking, Surrey GU21 6LE (tel: 01483 768 942), or on-line, in conjunction with Love2Donate: In Memory, by visiting: http://www.funeral-directors-woking.co.uk">http://www.funeral-directors-woking.co.uk
