NATIONAL LEAGUE TWO WEST
Redruth 38 Hornets 14
REDRUTH’S sensational start to the season shows no signs of slowing down as five first half tries were more than enough to see off Hornets at the Recreation Ground.
The Cornishmen, who welcomed back key scrum-half Sam Bray, were on the front foot early on and led inside four minutes. Bray sniped away from a breakdown before offloading to the supporting Mawgan Osborne to dot down. Fly-half Joe Cummins added the extras.
Seven minutes later a second try arrived as following a superb driving maul from halfway, good play from Bray and right-winger Noah Clifford ended with Bray once again turning provider, this time for Cummins to do the rest.
By the midway point of the first half the Reds had the bonus point in the bag as first, several pick and goes ended with Tom Cowan-Dickie going over, and the hooker repeated the feat soon after from a 10-metre driving maul.
A carbon copy of his second try five minutes before the break gave Cowan-Dickie his hat-trick and 10th try of the season already as they led 31-0.
To Hornets’ credit they improved after the break, but conceded again when man-of-the-match Connor Gilbert powered through the midfield on 48 minutes.
That was the last of Redruth’s points, and although tries from George Williams and Tom Read gave the Weston-super-Mare outfit some reward, it was the Reds’ day.
Redruth’s first long trip of the season sees them visit Lymm in Cheshire on Saturday.
