G&R Rockets 31
University 2 19
After last week's defeat Rockets needed to pick up points in order to stay in the top half of the Plymouth and District Netball League Premier A table.
With both shooters Sarah Todd and Kerry Cardew back in the team, Rockets were feeling confident in their attacking game once again but, due to illness, were missing Katie Gray from defence so had no substitute. The first few minutes saw both teams score off their own centre and then turn over a centre pass and it was quickly 2-2.
Rockets then started to take control in defence with Meg Weekes and Alice Trethewey making it difficult for University to feed the ball into their shooting circle and Sian Ridpath forcing errors and making interceptions. Rockets barely missed their own shots on goal and they lead 11-3 going into the second quarter.
University started making Rockets centre Debbie Cardew work hard as she was covering just about every inch of the court to help keep Rockets ahead. Debbie and Sam Hall continued to work the ball into the Rockets' attacking third with both shooters optimising their shooting positions and Rockets extended their lead to 20-9 at half-time.
University brought on a new centre and shooter to try to get passes over the Rockets' defence with some high balls into the their circle. This made the second half much closer and there was some good circle defending and re-bounds from University. But Rockets were determined to hold onto their lead and kept the pressure on every pass, turning over balls and working hard right down the court. Rockets scored 11 goals to University's 10 making the final score was 31-19.
University nominated Meg Weekes as Rockets' player of the match.
