A modern pentathlete from Pensilva near Liskeard has been invited onto the World Class Talent Programme with Pentathlon GB.

Sixteen-year-old Charlotte Hicks will now have access to training with top class coaches from around the world.

Charlotte is number one in the British Pentathlon rankings list for under 17 and holds five national titles and a world title.

Her mum, Kathy, told the Cornish Times: ‘We are so very proud of what Charlotte has achieved.

‘She is so very dedicated to her sport and trains hard to continually challenge herself and improve her performance, she has so much drive and focus.

‘It is great to see her develop as an athlete and the wonderful competitions and opportunities she is experiencing on her journey to be the best athlete she can be.’

Pentathlon consists of five disciplines – epee fencing, 200m swim, a combined phase of running and shooting, and horse riding.
