Millbrook rider Harry Luxton is looking to defend his National Junior Hill Climb Champion title this year.

Harry, who cycles with the RU Training Today club, has just finished racing in a national series of cycling events and is now concentrating on his favoured event – hill climbing.

Harry won the National Junior Hill Climb Champion trophy last year and is looking to defend and improve his standing this year.

Harry came third in the Exeter Wheelers’ hill climb event at Stoke Hill near Exeter on Saturday which attracted a good group of cyclists, including three of last year’s national hill climb champions. There were 100 entrants ranging in age from 12 to 60-plus, who set off at one minute intervals to see who could get up the hill the fastest.

The National Champion Hill climber in the men’s category, Dan Evans, finished first, with professional rider George Pym second. Harry came in third, just one second behind - a good result for a junior rider. Harry is now starting training for the National Hill climb event in October when he is hoping to push closer to Dan Evans’ time.
