It is the turn of the East Cornwall to host the next Point-to-Point horse racing fixture to be held in the area, which will take this Sunday, February 24, at the popular course located at Great Trethew near Menheniot.

Pony racing heads up the action with two pony races starting at 11am, followed by the main event with six races on offer, including a competitive maiden flat race for four, five and six-year olds which is sponsored by JRL.

This race holds 25 entries and looks highly competitive with recent Barbury runner-up So Socksy(Ben Clarke), Exhibit A for the Tracey Parker team, and I Prefer Diamonds for team Chanin among them.

Next up is the open maiden for four, five and six-year-olds in which Spring Break from the Will Biddick yard could improve on his third at Barbury, and Dr Kanaga could follow up on his maiden flat win for Ben Clarke.

In the maiden open race for seven year-olds and over, one to keep an eye on in the betting arena is Deise Gold for Cornish trainer Jill Dennis, the mare has clocked up some close seconds in maiden races this season and should get her head in front soon for owner Caroline Furze.

The feature race of the day is the mxed open sponsored by Porsche of Exeter, who will have their large stand and a number of cars on show at the event.

Entries here could include Navanman from the John Heard team who has already come home in front, with wins at both the Buckfastleigh meeting in November and the Wadebridge December meeting. He could come up against Jack Snipe who is equally rated, also Honest Deed and Heaney are sure to be well fancied after their decent recent outings.

Heaney is also entered in the conditions race for novice riders for Millie Wonnacott to ride.

Finally up is the restricted race in which Chipley Park maiden winner Raging Fire looks progressive. The two Joe Tickle-trained entries stand out another Chipley Park winner George’s Legacy and My King after his Wadebridge win.

The course offers bar, hot and cold refreshments and food, bookies and a number of trade stands.

Entrance to the course is £10 per person with children under 16 free. Dogs on leads welcome.
