WITH St Blazey in FA Vase in Oxfordshire tomorrow, just four Cornish clubs are in action in the Western League Premier Division (3pm).

Despite some inconsistent performances, Liskeard Athletic sit a healthy fourth in the table despite playing more games than all of those around them.

They host strugglers Wells City as they look to bounce back from their 4-0 thrashing at neighbours St Blazey last Wednesday night (October 21) in the Les Phillips Cup, although their last league outing on October 17 saw them see off leaders Bridgwater United thanks to Harry Probyn’s brace.

Newquay’s 5-0 thrashing of Tavistock on Wednesday night saw them move above Blazey into fifth and into the final play-off spot.

They host Cornish rivals Saltash United at Mount Wise knowing a win coupled with Liskeard drawing or losing will see them end the day third as Portishead are hosting Clevedon Town in the Vase.

The Ashes head to Mount Wise having exited the Les Phillips Cup to Ivybridge Town in midweek, and have lost four of their last five league games to drop to 13th. They are 12 points behind Newquay, albeit with two games in-hand.

Successive victories over Sidmouth Town and Wellington have moved Torpoint Athletic up to ninth.

The East Cornwall outfit have had a slow start following last year’s play-off heartache, but are seemingly getting their mojo back.

Dean Cardew’s side won’t played for a fortnight by the time kick-off comes around when they visit a Tavistock side who are looking to avoid a hat-trick of successive defeats to Cornish opposition. They were beaten 1-0 by visiting St Blazey 13 days ago.

The Lambs are four points clear of Torpoint having twice more, but are a work in progress under new boss Connor Marshall having lost plenty of key players in recent weeks.

Fixtures (3pm): Brislington v Street, Liskeard Athletic v Wells City, Newquay v Saltash United, Tavistock v Torpoint Athletic, Wellington v Sidmouth Town.
