Today sees the start of the new season for Cornwall’s veteran footballers.
The Cornwall Veterans League, again sponsored by Q Cornwall Leisure, kicks off with 14 teams competing, and a further three clubs – Pensilva, Wendron and Penzance – joining the cup competitions.
Champions St Dennis begin their title defence with a tricky home match against Perranporth. Saints will no doubt be among the front runners this season, but have been hit with one or two players hanging up their boots and the departure of top scorer Chris Truscott to his home town club, Callington Town.
As well as the signing of the prolific Truscott, Callington have further boosted their strong squad with the addition of their ex first team player manager, Lee Beer.
With Truscott’s goal power and the experience of Beer, Town will be pushing for honours this season and will be looking for three points against Halsetown, who make the long trip from St Ives to the Ginsters Marshfield Park.
One of three new teams to enter the league this season is Lanreath, who will be managed by former player Justin Dudley and ex-professional Dave McGhee.
