THE ARGYLE COLUMN BY ROSS REID

Plymouth Argyle supporters will be hoping the Greens can claim their first League One win of the season at home to unbeaten pace setters Peterborough United on Saturday at Home Park (3pm).

The Posh maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a 1-0 win at Charlton on Tuesday, thanks to a controversial penalty winner.

Only table-topping Peterborough – managed by Steve Evans - and second placed Portsmouth have managed to win all four opening League One games.

Fourth from bottom Argyle have made a frustrating start, claiming their second league point in a 1-1 draw at home to Wycombe on Tuesday after taking a fourth minute lead through striker Freddie Ladapo.

The former Southend striker was coolness personified as he clipped the ball home over Wanderers keeper Ryan Allsop for his first goal in green.

Wycombe’s second half pressure was rewarded with an 84th minute leveller from midfielder Matt Bloomfield.

Pilgrims boss Derek Adams called it right: ’We should have gone further ahead in the first half but Wycombe were the better team in the second half.

’You have got to give credit to Wycombe but from our point of view we just didn’t keep the ball well enough.

’We need to manage the game a wee bit better.

’When Wycombe had all the pressure we had to find a different way of doing things but we didn’t. Even in the first half when we were on top we had to capitalise and get that second goal.’

Now Adams and his team will focus on the positives – they have scored first in all but one of their five opening league and cup games – and try and cause an upset against Peterborough, as they did at Bristol City.

Adams admits: ’You always want to get the first (league) win under your belt.’

It was a similar story last season and similarly Adams remains as determined as ever.

’We will just keep on trying,’ he adds.

On Saturday, Argyle will need to be at their tip-top best.

That’s the beauty of football . . . they may well be.
