Phew! What a transfer deadline week at Argyle, writes Ross Reid.

The fact Derek Adams’ Pilgrims lost 2-1 at Yeovil almost faded into the background as the incoming and outgoing transfer doors at Home Park revolved.

The official Argyle website reported that young Louis Rooney’s loan switch to Hartlepool United went through ‘just 17 seconds before the transfer window closed’.

The 20-year-old forward will team up with Pools until the end of the season.

The disappointing defeat at Yeovil hardly had time to filter through before Argyle announced the incoming loan signing of Scottish Under 21 winger Matty Kennedy from Neil Warnock’s Championship Cardiff City.

Kennedy joined Cardiff on a three and a half year deal in February 2015 and starred on his City debut in a 1-1 home draw with Blackburn Rovers before going on to play regularly until the end of the 2015-16 season.

Last season he spent a 12-match spell on loan at League One side Port Vale. The 22-year-old was a 54th minute substitute for Warnock in City’s 1-0 home win over Burton Albion two weeks ago and was a 77th minute substitute in last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Reading so he is match-ready.

On Tuesday he was winging his way to Home Park to team up with new fellow new signing, striker Ryan Taylor, released by League One Oxford United last week and snapped up by Adams on Monday.

The experienced 28-year-old target man arrived in Devon as it was announced that 20-year-old Argyle left back Ben Purrington was joining Championship side Rotherham United for a six-figure fee.

The young attacking full-back has been associated with Argyle for over a decade and was quick to take to Twitter to thank the club ‘for everything they have done for me over the past 12 years.’ Adding: ‘I wish them all the best!’.

Former Shrewsbury and Fleetwood midfielder Antoni Sarcevic, who joined Plymouth last week, made his debut off the bench at Yeovil.

It will be interesting who is in Adams’ starting XI at Cambridge tomorrow.

The wily Pilgrims manager’s squad now boasts crucial ‘strength in depth’ to ring changes following Tuesday’s loss – and for the promotion run-in.
