YOUNG St Mellion golfer Sammie Giles has been selected for England’s team for the Nations Cup event at the Spanish women’s amateur championship next month.

Sammie will be joined by fellow internationals Gemma Clews and Sophie Lamb.

All three were members of England’s winning team at the 2015 women’s Home Internationals.

Sammie, 21, is the English women’s stroke play champion, adding it to her win in the 2014 English mid-amateur. She was sixth in the English women’s amateur and won the Royal Birkdale scratch trophy.

The Spanish championship takes place at Escorpion Golf Club from March 2-6. The Nations Cup event will be played on the first two days, during the stroke play qualifying for the matchplay stages. The best two scores from three will count in each of the two rounds.
