Ward Williams Cornwall Senior Cup first-round round-up - Tuesday, September 29
HOLDERS Penzance were dumped out at the first-round stage as Western League Premier Division outfit Newquay put four goals past them without reply at Mount Wise on Tuesday night.
The Magpies – flying high in South West Peninsula League Premier West – one league lower than their hosts, had thrashed Camelford 3-0 in May’s showpiece at St Blazey, but found themselves trailing by the same scoreline at the break.
A Jack Bray-Evans penalty put them in front before a slack pass was seized upon by man-of-the-match Matt Searle who fired into the bottom left-hand corner from 20 yards.
Tim Nixon’s curling free-kick from close to the touchline found its way in for the third, before Tom Shepherd’s ball in from the right found its way inside the near post as the Peppermints enjoyed a superb night on their own patch.
Newquay are joined in the second round by fellow Step Five outfits Liskeard Athletic and Torpoint Athletic.

Liskeard welcomed old rivals Saltash United and the two East Cornwall sides served up a classic to provide plenty of excitement ahead of their upcoming league matches.
The Blues, who gave a debut to prolific former Plymouth Parkway and Tavistock striker Jack Crago off the bench, nearly fell behind on 19 minutes when returning frontman Deacon Thomson struck the woodwork, while Dylan Holgate and Kieran O’Melia both failed to hit the target either side of the break.
With 15 minutes remaining the hosts took the lead via James Lorenz’s deflected strike, but the Ashes forced extra-time with four minutes gone of injury-time when Joe Preece forced the ball over the line.
Both teams had their chances in the first half of extra-time, before visiting stopper Jordan Duffey makes an unbelievable save in the 112th minute, moments after home stopper Ollie Chenoweth denied Saltash’s new defender Sam Hillson.
Within a minute the Blues were back in front via Lorenz from Toby Haley’s brilliant cross, but Hillson ensured spot-kicks with another Ashes goal in time added on.
With the penalties in front of the home end, both sides scored two and missed two of their first four penalties.
Crago netted Liskeard’s last spot-kick which allowed Chenoweth to save the last to spark delight in the home camp.

Nearby down at Torpoint, the hosts cruised past SWPL Premier West strugglers Wendron United 4-0.
The Point, who were beaten by one-league lower Sticker last year, ensured there’d be no such repeat as James Rowe put them in front midway through the first half, followed on 26 minutes via Freddie Chapman from skipper Elliott Crawford’s corner.
And any hopes of a Wendron comeback were done four minutes before the break with another Tom Payne cracker, the veteran midfielder rifling in from 20 yards.
Torpoint boss Dean Cardew rung the changes in the second half, and they added a fourth when Gary Hird fired in off the post from Curtis Damerell’s lay-off.
The Brook led 2-1 going into second half injury-time before Jamie Gilbert equalised, but after both sides produced more epic moments in the next 30 minutes, the tie went to penalties which saw Dobwalls hold their nerve in a 4-1 success.
Hayle’s excellent start to the campaign continued in the other first round tie as the Greens saw off West Cornwall rivals Helston Athletic 1-0 away from home with Aaron Hicks’ intervention proving decisive.
