IT was an unusual season for Millbrook, who at the time of the lockdown had only managed 12 league matches, with 18 still to be played.

Under manager Darren Hamley, Millbrook’s season started well, winning two and drawing the other game, but they then won only one of the next four.

Hamley said: ‘We got off to a great start to the season but we were a new team.

‘The team then started to gel as the season went on due to having a regular squad.

‘This showed as we drew our last game against St Mawgan, who were pushing for top spot in the league if they had beaten us that day.

‘We have been very good defensively (conceding only 16 goals – the best in the league) but maybe lacking a little firepower up front, which we are looking to sort out for the beginning of the season.’

This was emphasised with top scorer Zak Pearce only netting five goals.

But they did reach the quarter- final of the League Cup after wins over Lanreath (3-1) and Wadebridge Town (4-2), before going down 3-0 at St Day.

The league season ended well, with the highlight being the 5-2 win at local rivals Torpoint Athletic.

Hamley concluded: ‘We are a young side with a few old, more experienced players mixed in, and we are looking forward to pre-season to bring in a few more new faces and strengthen the squad.’
