PLYMOUTH Argyle reached the semi-finals of the PLFL League Cup after an entertaining 4-1 win at Wycombe Wanderers last night to set up a last-four clash with Birmingham City.

The young Pilgrims are part of the Football Education programme run by Argyle Community Trust.

’We could have been behind in the first half but survived with some great last-ditch defending that kept us in the game,’ said coach Lee Hodges. ’We took the lead with an excellent goal, when Connor Rush latched on to a lovely pass from Charlie Hardcastle to score in style.

’Wycombe equalised from a rebound but the boys responded brilliantly to retake the lead just before half-time after good work from Alex Godwin on the wing created space for Ollie Bowen to smash in a superb strike from 25 yards.

’We possibly didn’t deserve to be in the lead at half-time but we were strong at the back, and took our chances. The third goal was a penalty scored by captain Fletcher Williams and Godwin made it 4-1 with a neat finish at the far post.’
