Torpoint’s David Wetherill is ready to take on the best table tennis players in the world in the Paralympic Games in Rio, which start on Wednesday, September 7.
The 26-year-old will be competing in his third Paralympic Games having previously represented ParalympicsGB in Beijing and London.
He took singles bronze and team silver at last year’s European Championships and is currently ranked number four in the world in men’s class 6.
He said: ‘We had a really good training camp in Slovenia two weeks ago and I know that all the hard work is in the bank.
‘It is about performing on the day now. Experience does count for a lot – I’ve done it all before and I’m trying to stay away from all the razzmatazz that goes with a big event.
‘I feel quite calm and hopefully I’ll be able to focus on the job in hand and handle the nerves and pressure better this time.
‘I feel that I am improving as a player week by week but I have no expectations whatsoever – obviously I have dreams but I am not thinking in terms of outcome. I’ve just got to go and put into practice all the hard work I’ve done and enjoy the challenge.’
