Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Six and Seven East round-up – Saturday, August 15
SALTASH Seconds moved a step closer to the league title after seeing off a determined performance from their St Neot counterparts at Chapel Field.
The Ashes lost wickets all the way through but were indebted to skipper Duncan Nobes - who went past 500 league runs for the season - making 68 not out from 103 balls in their 208 all out, a total helped by 50 extras and 27 from Alex Johnson who put on 74 with Nobes. Liam Champion got plenty of late reward with 5-61, while Arthur Fox (2-43) also impressed.
In reply, the visitors started slowly but despite a rapid 71 from Ted Dyer, they were unable to ever quite get ahead of where they needed to be as they were dismissed for 193 off the final ball. Opener Malcolm Copplestone made a steady 30 while Liam Champion and Arthur Fox, the latter who was unbeaten, made 22 apiece.
Ryan Bailey claimed 4-56, including yorking Dyer late on, but it was the in-form Callum Iles-Wright with 3-38 that was the star of the show both at the start and back end of the innings.
In the bottom tier, Boconnoc Seconds’ promotion hopes took a big blow as they were soundly beaten by visiting Lanhydrock Thirds.
The Bodmin outfit knocked up 209-9 with the hosts mustering just 126 in response.
Luckett Thirds had a tough afternoon at Stoke Climsland against leaders Buckland Monachorum Seconds.
Only Korben Rogers (15), Liam Jasper (14) and Sam Rogers (12) reached double figures in their 99 all out as Sam Houldsworth took 5-25, before Jasper, Korben Rogers and skipper Martin Budge took a wicket in their seven-wicket reversal.
Tideford Seconds were handed a home walkover by Foxhole.
