BOND TIMBER CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE COUNTY DIVISION ONE (SATURDAY)

Luckett v Beacon

LUCKETT must win both of their final two games to have any chance of survival after a 85-run defeat to mid-table Beacon at Chapel Field.

The hosts were missing influential all-rounder Luke Brenton and chose to field.

They got the big wicket of Ben James for 13 via Ryan Brown (2-42), before Sam James (35), Stephen Wiseman and key man Jordan Thomas took the total up to 184-3.

Thomas was first to go, stumped by Henry Wilkinson off Brown for 34, while Wiseman went soon after for 86, caught by skipper Andrew Hoskin off Richard Goldsby-West.

Oliver Roach (31 off 29) started the acceleration before veteran Darren Proctor also added 34 not out despite wickets falling towards the end to Hoskin (3-55) and Cornwall Over 60s spinner Mark Southcott (2-43), the West Cornwall outfit eventually reaching 284-9.

In Brenton’s absence, George Wilkinson opened with Toby May, but while Wilkinson made 22, the rest of the top order struggled as they slipped to 53-4.

The hard-hitting James Moon (39 off 36) and Brown (26) put on 45, but wickets continued to tumble as they slipped to 146-8 with both Dan Pearce (10) and James Wilkinson (12) making starts.

Henry Wilkinson (22) and an injured Joe Hagan-Burt walloped 53 in just 27 balls together which included the latter taking 23 off a Gareth Mankee over, before Wilkinson was caught by Thomas off Proctor’s wily off-spin.

The end then came in the 37th over when Hagan-Burt, who struck 37 from just 19 deliveries with four fours and three sixes, was taken by Roach off Ben James’ leg-spin.

It means Luckett must win both of their final two games, starting with Saturday’s trip to Perranporth (12.30pm) which is followed by a home clash with top two contenders Truro.
