LISKEARD’S cricketers are back in Division Three East of the Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League following a dramatic ending to the season.

The Lux Park outfit picked up 14 points from their abandonment at fellow hopefuls St Neot on Saturday, meaning Launceston needed eight points or more at Newquay Seconds on Bank Holiday Monday to take the title ahead of Wadebridge Thirds.

However, they went down by 52 runs to allow Liskeard to take second by two points with both sides having won 10 and lost five of their 18 outings.

On Saturday, Liskeard and St Neot started a 28-over contest at Wenmouth which saw the town outfit knock up 204-5, helped by 82 from opener Andrew Ware and contributions from skipper Andrew Cobb (46) and Brijesh Desai (31).

St Neot were 8-3 after 4.1 overs with Cobb and Pritesh Mungra – the latter twice – causing problems.

Elsewhere in the division, Callington Thirds were beaten by five wickets at St Stephen despite Charlie Coates’ 72, while relegated Tideford ended with a 10-wicket reversal at Gorran who survived as a result.

Menheniot-Looe will once again be in Division Two East next season following a final day washout and the rain denying Holsworthy the chance to force a victory which would have sent Menheniot down.

Holsworthy did eventually get underway against St Austell Seconds, but after 28 overs were rained off.

No play was possible for Callington in the Premier at home to Werrington as they ended fourth, while already relegated Luckett didn’t start against Truro in County Division One.

Boconnoc finished in the bottom two in Division Three East as after posting 280-9 in a 42-over game at St Minver, more weather and bad light ended the fixture with the hosts 181-2 in reply.

However, Grampound Road’s surprise success over runners-up South Petherwin saw the visitors go down by three points.
