CALLINGTON Women have enjoyed a sensational 2026 season, finishing unbeaten in the East league before recently being crowned county softball champions on Finals Day at Boconnoc.

After narrowly missing out on the league title last season — finishing joint top on points with Werrington, but losing out on run-rate — Cally were looking to go one better.

Winter indoor leagues and training provided the perfect platform to build, and with the women’s squad continuing to grow, the club was able to enter two teams into the league for the first time.

The first team proved their quality throughout the season, going unbeaten to secure the East league title before overcoming Wadebridge and Redruth on Finals Day to lift the county championship.

Callington are also on course for the county cup title following wins over St Minver and Werrington - and face Redruth at St Austell this Saturday (2pm).

Behind the success is a rapidly developing women’s section, with two teams now boasting players ranging from 14 to 50-plus. The second team has played a vital role in developing new players and youngsters, and while having an impressive first season they’ve also provided crucial support to the first team when called upon.

Coach Blaze Eigennman has been instrumental in developing the squad’s skills and understanding of the game, while captain Kate Bourn believes the future is looking extremely bright.

Kate said: “I’m incredibly proud of how far women’s cricket has come at Callington. The girls have worked so hard to improve and support each other, and the biggest improvements have been in our bowling and fielding.

“We’ve an amazing group, and with youngsters coming through the pathway and hopefully feeding into the women’s teams in the future, I’m excited about where we can go from here.

“Our number one rule has been to enjoy every minute — and there’s certainly been no shortage of banter,”
